Why Your Fundraising Matters

Imagine waking up one day and realising you’ll never walk again. For thousands of people living with spinal cord injuries, this is their reality. Simple tasks we often take for granted—getting dressed, making a cup of tea, or even hugging a loved one—become monumental challenges.

My Story

In July, 2024 I was in Indianapolis, USA, watching a NASCAR Qualifying race with my family, when I had a truly life changing accident. I tripped down some steps, and fell forwards. After hitting my head on a metal bar, I landed face down on the bleachers and was unable to move. The paramedics rushed me to the local Emergency Department, and after many scans and tests the doctors very quickly discovered I had damaged my spine between C5 to C7, and I was paralysed. The Trauma Team operated that night and attached a metal support bar to my spine, otherwise it would have been permanent paralysis.

After 2 weeks in Intensive Care in Indianapolis I was repatriated to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to wait for rehabilitation at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Hospital in Oswestry. After 8 months in various hospitals I finally settled back at home in February, 2025 and since then I have been doing a lot of physio and exercise to try to get back to enjoying life - albeit in a new "world".

My accident was truly life changing but I'm determined to make sure it's not life controlling, and have decided to raise money for one of the charities that helped with my recovery.

By supporting Spinal Injuries Association, you’re helping us provide life-changing services, from expert advice and peer support to campaigning for better care and opportunities. You’re giving people their independence back.

Thank you
