Hello!
This year I am incredibly lucky to be taking part in the EIA Bridge Builders program as a Bridge Corps Mentor.
My role is to help guide our team of engineering students through the design and construction of a pedestrian bridge for a remote community near Madlangempisi in Eswatini. The Jolitane Bridge will connect the Dvokolwako and Kazandano communities across the Black Mbuluzi River. Tragically, 12 people have lost their lives in the last 3 years alone whilst attempting river crossings. This bridge is expected to help almost 5500 people, including 3000 children. As part of this, I will be spending two weeks on-site to help with the bridge build.
The funds raised here go directly to EIA and will be used to offset travel expenses for volunteers. Any excess funds raised will be used to fund future EIA projects and activities.
The EIA Bridge Program's mission is to empower today's volunteers to become tomorrow's global change-makers by building bridges with underserved communities. Since 2006 in our program, thousands of volunteers from 40+ universities and companies across the globe have designed and built 125+ footbridges alongside rural communities in 12 countries, effectively connecting over 200,000 previously isolated people to essential resources.
Those numbers are continuing to grow this year! But it costs a lot money to build these bridges and our volunteers incur a lot of expenses while volunteering their time and expertise. Please consider joining our "Bridge Builder Family" by making a financial contribution today!
