"I would bet my 14 year career as a emergency consultant, that by this time next week - you would have been dead!"
Not something every, supposedly healthy, 29 year old expects to hear.
I was nosediving into a Diabetic Ketoacidosis. My ketones where 4.2 and my glucose skyrocketing at 29.1. I lost two stone in weight and I was sent in an ambulance to the DGRI resus unit.
I was subsequently diagnosed with a rare mutation of Type 1 Diabetes which effects 1% of ALL diagnosed diabetes cases and you could safely say life changed and perspective was given in an abundance.
There is a misconception that Diabetes is simply about sugar and diet. I was probably ignorant about it myself, it isn't. It is life changing, manageable granted, but life changing nonetheless.
Also, did you know someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes? More than 5 million people are living with diabetes in the UK right now.
So, I'm running towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes.
