Story
Throughout this year I will be taking part in a number of road races in order to do a number of things:
1) Improve my physical fitness
2) Manage my mental health
3) Raise money for Diabetes UK
In December 2023 I was diagnosed with Type2 Diabetes. Following diagnosis I took up running to help me lose weight. I also massively changed my day to day lifestyle and diet. Since that original diagnosis I have lost over 20% of my body weight and put my diabetes in to remission, however it never disappears so I need to continue on the journey I'm on.
To help me do that I am taking part in numerous road races this year (8 in total), culminating in the Great North Run in September. Races booked so far:
Croft 10k - March - done with a new PB of 53:46
Dalton Park 10k - April - done with a new PB of 53:05
Northallerton 10k - May - done 53:28
Ali Brownlee 5k - June (on my birthday) - Unfortunately never made it
Newcastle 10k - July - done and a new PB
Durham City 10k - July - done
Middlesbrough 10k - August
Great North Run 13.1miles - September 7th
Locomotion 5 mile - September
That will be my first ever half marathon at the age of 55. I can't say I am looking forward to any of these just yet. I don't like crowds and don't particularly like running with other people, but am sure it will be worth it!
I'm aiming to raise as much money as I can for Diabetes UK. Many people aren't as lucky as me. We desperately need to be able to help others. Educate others. Support others. I'll do all I can to help - including madly doing this - but to do so I need your support.
Every pound makes a difference, so anything you can contribute would be very gratefully received.
Keith
