Story

Hi, my name is Kiara Roberts. I attend the veterinary science program at Alvirne High School. Our team is raising money to help animals in need at the Human Society for Greater Nashua. Everything that gets donated will help pay for supplies for animals and will help with medical needs for the animals.

Anyone who knows me knows that being a veterinarian has been my dream since I was just three years old.I have had so many pets in my life ( some with fur some with scales), and I still continued to expand my little zoo to this day.

On Christmas 2009, my aunt brought home a box she said she found next to a dumpster in an alleyway. In the box was a kitten, I named her Minnie. Minnie was in desperate need of a home. I gave her food and water and a home where she was safe. Most of all I gave her love.

She was my first-ever pet and I was so close with her, and we bonded so well. She would always lie next to me in my crib, curl up with me when I was sick or sad, greet me at the door when I came home from school, and keep all my secrets.

In 2017 I noticed a lump on her stomach and that is when I took her to the vet. That was the day I found out she had cancer. After 2 weeks I made the very difficult and heart-breaking decision to put her down.It was a very difficult decision but I couldn't watch her suffer any longer.

This past summer, I volunteered at the Humane Society for greater Nashua and at the end of it I adopted a kitten. We named her moose and the Humane Society sent us home with a variety of different toys, different colored a carrier for her and even a weeks worth of food they were beyond helpful with the entire process.

The Human Society helped to find resources, and options and ultimately helped me with the cost of putting my first best friend to rest. They have helped me and many others I know find new friends and fur babies to make their families whole.

I walk for the animals who need safe homes. For the ones who are fighting to survive. For the ones who are in need of medical attention. For the ones who can't speak for themselves. I am walking to support every animal that never got the chance to be in a safe environment where they can feel comfortable. I am walking for the animals who never had a place they can call home!

HSFN is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been supporting Greater Nashua since our inception in 1900. We have a staff of 25 people who, along with our volunteers, help us care for and raise needed funds for the over 2,500 pets we house each year. We are overseen by a volunteer Board of Trustees who provide leadership and guidance. We hope you will stop by our shelter to visit our pets and learn more about what we do and the services we provide to the community.
