Story
I am a mom to a sweet, funny, loving, smart, almost 5-year-old disabled child. Our kiddo benefits greatly from the programs and services offered by Easter Seals Nova Scotia. I am pleased to be participating in this 20th anniversary event!
I participated in Drop Zone last year for the first time. It mentally and physically challenged me in ways I hadn’t expected, in part due to my own invisible disabilities. I decided to join Drop Zone again this year for several reasons. One of them is to give myself a chance to try again, and use what I learned last year.
As for my other reasons:
Did you know that a pediatric electric wheelchair for a toddler can cost upwards of $32,000? I didn’t, until we were faced with that reality. Gratefully, this amazing wheelchair was funded through Easter Seals Nova Scotia. For the first time, driving a new power chair gave our child the autonomy to move where they want to go.
Additionally, this year, our child was able to participate in the Wheelchair Basketball program.
On days with extras chairs, we got to play as well. There isn’t a price tag for the feeling of sitting across from my child, eye-to-eye, and getting to play with them in THEIR activity just as their mom, without being the caregiver/support worker.
The care put into these programs by the staff and volunteers of Easter Seals Nova Scotia are also why I am choosing to participate for my second year and face my fear of heights again.

We are Strong Like a Mother — a team of passionate, powerhouse moms coming together to raise money for kids with disabilities through Easter Seals.
Some of us are moms to children with complex medical and developmental needs, and others are fierce allies who’ve shown up time and time again for the families in their lives and communities. What unites us is our shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, move, and thrive — and that no family should feel like they’re facing it all alone.
Easter Seals has been a lifeline for many, offering vital equipment, inclusive camp experiences, and programs that break down barriers for kids with disabilities. The impact of these supports is powerful and far-reaching — helping children gain mobility, confidence, and the chance to fully participate in the world around them.
We’re proud to be taking part in Drop Zone 2025 — harnessed up and stepping off the side of a building — to raise funds and awareness for this incredible organization. It's a little scary, sure. But nothing compared to the strength we see in these kids and families every day.
Please consider supporting Strong Like a Mother by donating or sharing our story. Every dollar raised goes directly to Easter Seals programs that empower children and lift families up.
With gratitude, courage, and a whole lot of mom-strength,
Team Strong Like a Mother
