Caring for a dog is a profound experience. It’s helped me see animals in a completely different light—as intelligent, emotional beings with unique quirks, personalities, and above all, the capacity to love in the most pure and unselfish way.

When I think about how humans have bred dogs over millennia to be loving, loyal companions—creatures who effectively depend on us so deeply—I feel a responsibility to return that trust with care and protection.

This 10K run is a small gesture to give back to the animals who bring so much joy and love into our lives. And what do they ask in return? A bit of love, a few belly rubs, and maybe the occasional table scrap… (Well, in Remi’s case, maybe more than just occasionally. Let’s be honest: always.)

Freedom Dog Rescue is a fantastic, volunteer-run organization that gives homeless, abandoned, and sheltered dogs a second chance at finding a loving home. Since 2015, this Ottawa-based rescue has provided food, shelter, love, and veterinary care to dogs in need—until they are matched with their perfect forever family.
