Story
Some people buy motorbikes or take up golf when they hit their mid-40s. We (James Litherland, Paul Siviter and James Raine) decided to attempt a HYROX instead, because clearly, the best way to handle a midlife crisis is to embrace the latest fitness trend and embark on a three month journey via near-annihilation to prove to ourselves we're not quite over the hill yet!
For those not familiar with HYROX, it is a fitness race that combines both running and functional fitness. On Thursday 22nd January 2026, in just 7 weeks time (oooff!), we’ll be taking on a course that comprises a 1km run followed by a functional workout station (80m burpees, 100m lunges, 50m 152kg sled pushes etc.), repeated eight times.
Between us, we’ve swapped pints for protein shakes (mostly), and we’re putting ourselves through the pain of burpees, lunges, sled pushes, wall balls and lots of running, all to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We will also be doing this in memory of Lithers' dad Guy, who passed away earlier this year after his own long battle with prostate cancer. Cancer touches all of our lives in some way, and the work Macmillan does to support people through the hardest times is nothing short of incredible. Every donation helps them continue providing the care, advice and compassion that makes such a huge difference.
So please sponsor us and dig deep (while we do the same in training). Whether it’s £5 or £50, your support will keep us going when our legs and lungs start giving up!
Thank you!
