I started coming to Camp Kudzu in 2010 when I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a camper. I found out about Camp Kudzu through my three cousins who are also diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I returned as a volunteer in 2017. I have volunteered at summer sessions, family camp, teen retreat and more. Since volunteering my younger sister was diagnosed as well. Diabetes has been a huge influence in our family and changed my life significantly. I have a strong passion for helping show younger kids with Type 1 that anything is possible and this shouldn’t hold you back.

For more than 23 years Camp Kudzu has served as a lifeline for our campers and their families, empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to navigate the complexities of type one diabetes.

But Camp Kudzu is so much more than that—it's a place where friendships are forged, where children find comfort in shared experiences, and where the stigma surrounding diabetes dissolves into thin air. Here, each child feels the warmth of acceptance and belonging, surrounded by a community that understands their journey like no one else can.
