Great North Run 2024
Campaign by Diabetes UK (RCN 215199)
The greatest half marathon in the world. For the last 85 years, Diabetes UK has been at the forefront of diabetes research. We've discovered how to put type 2 diabetes into remission and were working day in, day out to find a cure.

Story

This year me and my sister Emilia are taking part in the Great North Run in loving memory of our loving Mum who very sadly passed away earlier this year. Our Mum was an extremely kind person with a great sense of humour, who we will miss forever.

I am choosing to support the amazing charity Diabetes UK. Our mum battled with type 1 diabetes for the majority of her life. Diabetes UK do incredible work in supporting people, in particular the amazing work they do surrounding mental health.

Unfortunately, people living with diabetes are more at risk of developing mental health conditions. Not only does diabetes increase your risk, but mental health can massively impact a persons ability to manage the condition day to day. Our mum, sadly battled with mental health conditions alongside her battle with diabetes and the complications that came along with this.

Diabetes UK do amazing work to integrate emotional care into diabetes support, campaigning to have mental health professionals as part of every diabetes care team.

As a type 1 diabetic myself and someone who has not run more than 5km, safe to say this going to be a challenge!

Any donations would be much appreciated. Thankyou
