Joggin for my Noggin! Luke and friends are running for The Brain Tumour Charity

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·
Hi, I'm Luke. Dad of two little girls and husband to Alex.
I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020.
Brain tumours come in all different shapes and sizes. Some are treatable and curable, others inoperable. Some are considered ‘benign’, others are deadly and fast-moving.
Mine is a low grade glioma, astrocytoma - incurable and the sort that grows back.
I was fortunate in that my tumour was accessible for brain surgery and I recovered well. I’m hopeful it’ll be a similar experience when we face it again.
Many people are suffering more severely than I am right now, and 5,500 people are dying each year.
In October, we’ll be joined by a group of fantastic and generous friends as we tackle the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London.
Together we are team: Joggin for my Noggin.
And we want to raise £5,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity!

1️⃣ Brain tumours are the BIGGEST cancer killer of children and adults under 40
2️⃣ Over 12,000 people are diagnosed each year with a primary brain tumour, including 500 children and young people – that’s 33 people every day
3️⃣ Over 5,300 people lose their lives to a brain tumour each year
4️⃣ At least 88,000 children and adults are estimated to be living with a brain tumour in the UK currently
5️⃣ Brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 27 years – the highest of any cancer
6️⃣ Just 12% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis
7️⃣ Research offers the only real hope of dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% is spent on brain tumours.
Your sponsorship and support will help The Brain Tumour Charity fund world-class research, keep striving for faster diagnosis times and to offer support for people affected by brain tumours – both now and in the future.
The charity - which supported me with valuable counselling during my recovery from my first round of surgery - has 2 clear goals over the coming years:
Live Longer – to double survival by 2030.
Live Better – to halve the harm that brain tumours have on quality of life by 2030.
All roads lead to research - which will propel the most powerful change for everyone diagnosed with a brain tumour – now and in the future.
Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated.
