2026 Camp Forget-Me-Not/Camp Erin DC - Maddie Adamec

Madeleine Adamec is raising money for Wendt Center for Loss and Healing
In memory of Claudine
We are so excited for this year's grief camps! With your help, we can continue to provide a fun, supportive environment for young people and their families to explore their feelings and process their experience since the death of their loved one.

Story

After losing my mom at the end of 2024, I have been no stranger to grief. I lost my favorite cheerleader, late-night gossip buddy, baking inspiration, and rock. I am not the only one. Many grieve the loss of my mom, Claudine, an exceptional mother, wife, friend, and person.

If you knew my mom, she was the type of person who showed up for her community. Whether it was the little things, like bringing soup to sick neighbors (with carrots in the shape of flowers, of course) or her famous flower arrangements, my mom loved to care for those around her. I thought of nothing more meaningful than looking for ways to connect to my community in the same way she did.

This summer, I will volunteer at the Wendt Center’s Camp Forget‑Me‑Not/Camp Erin DC — a free grief camp for children and their families in the DC area. This is tailored to children 6 - 17 who are grieving the death of someone they love.

Trained volunteers, like myself, provide one‑on‑one support, and licensed therapists lead therapeutic groups tailored to each age group. Caregivers are also included, recognizing that grief touches the whole family.

Since 1999, more than 1,400 children have attended Camp at no cost. Please join me in making this life‑changing experience possible by donating today.

Enjoy a picture of my mom dropping me off at my own summer camp <3.
