Story
Funds raised by this campaign will go to support waste workers at the forefront of tackling the global waste crisis. Biffa's Proud Partnership Infrastructure Fund will help deliver waste and recycling equipment that will make a huge difference to the lives of the people we work with, helping to lift themselves from poverty, whilst cleaning the environment.
People like Tevelon Morgan, a waste collector working in the informal sector in the township of Diepsloot, in Johannesburg, who lives with a disability and is the main breadwinner for his family of 9. Here there are no formal waste collection or recycling services, and with high unemployment rates, people such as Tevelon support their families by picking waste plastics. By providing a simple intervention such as a trolley and some work boots, Tevelon has been able to improve his income earning potential by 50%, making a huge difference to his life and those of his family, as well as to the community he is helping to clean up.
