At 45, Mechal was diagnosed with both ovarian and endometrial cancer—an experience that deeply reshaped her life and sense of purpose. Today, she channels that journey into advocacy, mentorship, and systemic change. As a writer and speaker, Mechal is committed to improving care for young adults navigating illness, disability, and uncertainty. She mentors other survivors, works to enhance the patient journey by improving navigation and communication across care teams, and shares her story with medical and nursing students to foster more compassionate, inclusive practice.

Mechal is a proud aunt, wife, sister, daughter, mentor, advocate, and friend. Drawing on her background in healthcare communications and clinical experience, she champions mental health equity, housing access, and person-centered systems—especially for those whose needs are often overlooked. She is deeply grateful to her care team, fellow survivors, family, and friends for their unwavering support.
