Ride the Island Challenge · 21 April 2023 to 24 April 2023 ·

Our challenge takes you round the lovely island of Ibiza, with spectacular sea views, beautiful beaches and idyllic hillside towns. Cycling 140km or 200 km over two days to raise money for SameYou

Story

Some time back a friend asked me to sponsor him for a bike ride he was doing around Ibiza. (He had previously suffered a brain haemorrhage and was riding for a brain injury charity). Before I had the chance to say ‘yes’ he offered me an alternative which was to join him; and rather late in the evening, I agreed to do it. That seems like a rash decision now, having discovered that Ibiza is not flat, (except for the dance floors and beaches) and I have been regretting it ever since! I was going to do it quietly until last week when someone asked if they could speak at my funeral!

So, here is a note asking a few of you to send me a couple of quid in aid of this amazing charity which you will only heard of, if you have know of someone who has suffered a brain injury.

I will not take it personally if you do not contribute as we all get many of these requests but if it chimes with you do support me.

Thanks in advance and I have already done over 1,200 kilometres of training so hopefully will not be walking!

Please see below a little information on the charity.

SameYou is a charity dedicated to creating a future where anyone affected by brain injury can achieve the best possible recovery by accessing long term physical, psychological and emotional recovery services. Co-founded by two brain injury survivors, the charity's mission is twofold:

To work with global partners to find and test better recovery treatments for survivors of brain injury and stroke.

To play our part in making these available to more people in need.

Working as a catalyst for change, SameYou partners with clinical experts, the public, and the private sector to co-design and demonstrate promising digital and community-based rehabilitation programmes.
