Story

2023 my family’s life changed forever when my baby boy got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. After thinking something wasn’t right with my son Louis I decided to take him to the doctors and We got told to go straight to hospital and were told Louis was going into a DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)

I had thought he may have diabetes as when I googled the signs came up of what to look for and they all rang true to how he had been.

The four ‘T’s are what you look out for

Toilet

Thirsty

Tired

Thinner

We were so lucky we took him when he did so he could get the right treatment.

He was very poorly and broke our hearts seeing him in that state. We had no idea what was in store for us.

After a week in hospital learning everything there is to know about diabetes, highs, lows, slow release insulin, fast release insulin, carb counting we were shook.

I’m now learning everything there is to know about type 1 diabetes and there is so much to learn. The sleepless nights are relentless and this is life for Louis, it doesn’t get easier this is just life with diabetes.

My brave boy has to do so much to stay alive every day and it breaks my heart but I am so proud of him, he amazes me with his strength.

We have had so much support from the Bristol children’s hospital and I really wanted to try and give something back so I’m walking to raise money for diabetes uk and all the amazing work they do.
