Story
Help me raise funds for My Sister's Place Women's Center while I paddle for Team M&T Bank!
2023 will commemorate the 12th biennial Catholic Charities Dragon Boat Races--a truly special event that combines athleticism and competition with fundraising and awareness of Catholic Charities. Since 1998, over 50 companies, non-profits and schools have partnered with us to raise over $5 million dollars in support of our mission – to love, serve and teach, work for justice, and to improve the lives of Marylanders in need.
I rarely ask friends and family to donate to causes important to me, and rather chose to volunteer my own time and resources. This time is a little different for me.
1) I'm pretty sure everyone knows of Catholic Charities, but did you know that they run over 80 programs/200 locations throughout Maryland that directly benefit: senior citizens, women, children, immigrants, returning individuals to society and those suffering from physical & mental trauma?
2) Catholic Charities is the largest private provider of Human Services in Maryland. Think of senior living, job training, drug and mental health treatment, shelters, and other resource centers.
3) The dragon boat races is usually the biggest fundraiser Catholic Charities does in support of their programs and they have not been able to hold it since 2018 because of complications due to the pandemic.
4) Catholic Charities introduced me to this amazing sport of Dragon Boat in 2006 and the sport has been responsible my personal growth as a man, a coach and as a contributor to my community. Most importantly the sport introduced me to the single most important thing in my life: my amazing wife.
5) Lastly our city and community has been through a lot over the past couple of years. That said, I'm constantly inspired by so many people who every day fight to make this a better place. When you add up all those efforts, it feels like there is momentum here.
Please consider donating and come out and see us on Sat. Sept 9th in the Inner Harbor. Everyone loves a comeback story, be part of Baltimore's.
