SIA overseas cycle challenge 2026 Toulous to Bordeux

Gary Dawson is raising money for Spinal Injuries Association

SIA 2026 12th Overseas Cycle Challenge · 6 May 2026

In 2026, this flagship event marks its 12th year with an unforgettable cycling journey along the Garonne River, from Toulouse to Bordeaux, all to raise money for SIA.

Story

Imagine one day waking up and realising you’ll never walk again. For thousands of people living with spinal cord injuries, this is their reality. Simple tasks we often take for granted, getting dressed, making a cup of tea, or even hugging a loved one become monumental challenges.

In May 2026, Richard Harrison, and I will be taking on the Spinal Injuries Association's European Cycle Challenge. Over 3 days we will cycle a total distance of 190 Miles from Toulouse to Bordeaux, France. Climbing Hills, battling weather and facing anything else the challenge throws our way, we want to raise as much money for the SIA as possible. If you can, please do donate. Liking, sharing, and engaging with our posts really helps to raise awarenss too.

To help us raise our target amount, we are hosting our own cycle event called RIDEFORSIA - Ride to Southport 26th April 2026. Click this link for more information https://linktr.ee/rideforsia

Why the SIA? In 2003 following a freak motorbike accident I was given the devastating news that I had sustained a Spinal Cord Injury. This left me paralysed from the chest down. With losing the use of 3/4's of my body including control of bodily functions I thought my life was over, I thought I was destined to an existence of ridicule and depression. As part of my rehabilitation I was introduced to the Spinal Injuries Association. This organisation has helped me rebuild my life back to independence. I now work for the SIA helping people come to terms with life changing injuries. We help people move on to live fulfilled lives no matter what the cause of injury or the level of impairment, the SIA will help them rebuild their lives. As a charity they do not receive any government funding and rely heavily on donations. Please help us reach our goal and help this charity continue doing their amazing work

This is where fundraising comes in, I will be cycling 320km across 3 days alongside approximately 40 other riders, including riders with spinal cord injuries.

By supporting Spinal Injuries Association, you’re helping provide life-changing services, from expert advice and peer support to campaigning for better care and opportunities. You’re giving people their independence back.

Thank you
