Story

My name is Rogers Sanya. Here in Kampala, Uganda, I have been helping a few very disadvantaged and needy people in my community with food and clothes.

One case in particular that has so moved my heart is the situation of a beautiful elderly woman - a widow, caring for her disabled adult son. They are desperate for a place to stay.

Just one example of why they need a safe home is recently when this woman was briefly away from home, she returned home to her small roomed shelter to find a large dangerous snake wrapped around her disabled son, as he lay on his bed on the floor. Amazingly it had not yet harmed the boy and neighbours were called upon to dispatch of it. This could have had the worst possible ending for the young man. The house is very old and in a bad condition. The snake was able to enter through just one of many large openings in the structure. Also, because of its location, when it rains, the house leaks and it sometimes floods. To face the loss of food items through water damage is devastating to someone struggling to provide even the most meagre meals for herself and her son.

Because her son James is in his 30’s, and his physical disability means he can’t assist with his own care, there is enormous strain on the mother to attend to even his basic personal needs. She can’t get him out of the home by herself and understandably is unable to leave him for periods of time to be able to find employment to sustain them from day to day in a most basic way. She has to resort to begging from those compassionate enough to help.

My heart is to raise much needed money to build this little family a modest, but safe home. We’d love to also be able to purchase a wheelchair for James to help him enjoy a better quality of life and provide relief for the mother who is struggling physically.

There are many, many people in our community who have more serious issues than this, but because we see the importance of getting this little family out of this risky house, we chose to prioritize her first.

Your kind and generous giving will change two lives beyond what they could even hope for.

The target is to raise $30,000 Eur to put up a house for her, provide a wheelchair for James and stock for them some basic food.

We are also fundraising for communities that were affected by the ongoing flood here in this area. There has been devastating damage, much poverty and despair and many lives lost.

We are so very grateful for your taking the time to read this and hope you’ll be moved to donate even just a little. Thank you so very much.
