Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·

The Royal Parks is THE eco-friendly marathon. For the last 85 years, Diabetes UK has been at the forefront of diabetes research. We've discovered how to put type 2 diabetes into remission. And were working day in, day out to find a cure.

Story

Welcome to my Royal Parks Half Marathon profile page for Diabetes UK. Did you know someone is diagnosed with diabetes every two minutes? As many as 4.8 million people are living with diabetes in the UK right now. So, I'm running towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes. Support my challenge by hitting the donate button on my profile page.

In memory of my father, who lived with Type 1 diabetes since his teens, I'm running a half marathon to raise awareness about the critical need for improved diabetes care in hospitals.

My dad's recent passing, highlighted serious gaps in hospital care for diabetic patients. During his hospital stays, we witnessed:

1. Dangerously low blood sugar levels going unnoticed

2. Staff breaks and staff changes leading to inadequate monitoring

3. Insulin not being given within a safe timeframe

4. Restrictions on using personal continuous glucose monitors

These experiences underscore the urgent need for:

1. Better training for hospital staff in diabetes management

2. Improved protocols for monitoring diabetic patients

3. Integration of modern diabetes technology in hospital settings

By running this half marathon, I aim to honour my dad's memory and contribute to positive change. Your support could help improve hospital care for diabetic patients, potentially saving lives and reducing complications.
