Story
My name is Grace Gilbert and on the 6th April 2025, I will be running the Brighton Marathon in memory of my amazing Dad, Andy Gilbert, who passed away from a brain tumour. Brain tumours are the single biggest killer of under 40’s each year, yet receive just 1% of government funding. Sadly my Dad died as a result of a very aggressive Glioblastoma multiform. I’d consider my Dad to be strong, positive and the biggest beacon of light in mine & my family’s life.
His death hit me really hard and made me realise the fragility that life can bring no matter how healthy, determined , kind, compassionate and young you may be. My Dad’s memory drives me to strive for my goals and aspirations and he remains a really strong influence in my life, despite him no longer being here. There are around 5,500 brain, other CNS and intracranial tumours deaths in the UK every year, that's 15 every day (2017-2019). Brain, other CNS and intracranial tumours is the 10th most common cause of cancer death in the UK, accounting for 3% of all cancer deaths (2017-2019). A brain tumour can affect anyone and when a loved one is diagnosed with a brain tumour, a cure really can’t wait. Please support me to raise much needed funds for this very underfunded charity. Many Thanks - Grace ❤️
