The small New Mexico town I grew up didn't have a YMCA so it wasn't until I moved to Houston that I got acquainted with the YMCA.

However, I wasn't a stranger to the benefits of summer programming at the Beach Park located on a dammed up piece of the Pecos river in Carlsbad NM. I had a pretty ideal childhood surrounded by friends and community that was fostered by these programs.

My first YMCA experience in Houston began after retirement at Foster YMCA but quickly expanded to include other YMCA's. I took advantage of the weight room at Foster to augment my Cross Fit classes in hopes I could do a an unassisted pull up. Ha Later I enrolled in water exercise programs at Trotter to prepare me for a hip replacement surgery. I rehabbed my knee after replacement surgery on the bikes at the downtown YMCA. I went to Silver Sneakers, Tai Chi and bookclub.

My life after retirement has been enriched and broadened by not just the programming at the YMCA but also by the people and the community.
