In 2024, I ran my first marathon in NYC on my 38th birthday, while fundraising for SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education).

Up until that point, I hadn’t run a single mile in my life.

Most people celebrate getting older with a nice dinner, a party, maybe a trip. Apparently not I.

I decided the move was: run four marathons before turning 40, and try to break 4 hours in one of them.

That gave me 730 days from November 3, 2024 to November 3, 2026.

Was it the euphoria of finishing NYC in under 5 hours that got me? Or am solidly in my Magpie era collecting shiny things?

Since then, I’ve completed the L.A. Marathon (March 2025), and this fall I’ll take on Chicago on October 11th, followed by New York City on November 1st - just three weeks later...

...Thats 4 marathons in 728 days. 2 days to spare.

A couple years ago, running wasn’t even on the radar.

So if you’re thinking about starting something new, it can be done. Progress is real. It just might spiral slightly.

But here’s the part that actually matters. Its four marathons, 40 years of age, and one purpose:

I’m running for SCOPE, an organization that gives kids the opportunity to experience summer camp — a place that builds confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories.

Not every child gets that chance, but they should. This is a way to help change that. Your donations will help change that.

So yes, I’d love to break 4 hours and run 4 marathons before I'm 40.. But more importantly, I want to help send more kids to camp. They deserve that.

SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education) is a national nonprofit funder of overnight summer camp and college scholarships, creating pathways to potential through Camp, Classroom, College, and Career for children and teens from under-resourced communities who commit to staying in school.

Campership recipients commit to staying in school in order to gain access to attend nonprofit, ACA-accredited, overnight, SCOPE partner camps, at no cost to their family.
