Story
Every day at UHN’s West Park, lives are rebuilt. People recover from serious injury or illness, regain their independence, and rediscover the joy of living.
People like Patty. She lost her right leg above the knee to cancer and, years later, survived a brain aneurism that caused a stroke. Twice, she turned to West Park. Twice, she found the strength to heal — learning to walk with a prosthetic leg, regaining movement in her left side, and relearning vital cognitive skills.
A passionate baker, Patty re-trained in West Park’s Activities of Daily Living suite, returned to her kitchen, and went on to compete on The Great Canadian Baking Show. This year, she’s joining the 2025 Culinary Showdown as a Fundraising Foodie — and I’m proud to stand beside her. It's stories like hers that resonates deeply with my passion.
For me, this journey is incredibly personal. My parents’ story began in the bustling streets of Saigon, and together our family has spent more than a decade serving Toronto through food. Growing up in a household filled with love, resilience, and the aroma of home-cooked meals taught me that the kitchen is more than a place to eat — it’s a place where dreams, community, and second chances are created.
Our brick-and-mortar store, Mr.Spring & Mrs.Fresh, located in Scarborough is where all the magic happens. This is where family recipes are served on a daily basis coupled with a touch of love. Our team is more than excited to be able to support this cause with Trancy & Tinmy, the siblings, being our store representatives.
That’s why this opportunity means so much to us. By joining the Culinary Showdown, we can combine our passion for food with a chance to give back — helping West Park provide the same life-changing care that gave Patty, and so many others, a second chance. Together, we will be supporting West Park’s mission to deliver specialized rehabilitation and complex care programs.
This is not just about raising funds; it’s about raising hope. And we would be honoured if you joined us on this journey. If we can reach a total of $5000 CAD, our team would be able to actively participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity, embark on an exciting competitive culinary experience with seasoned chefs, and pay it forward.
Together, let’s give back, lift others up, and make every second chance possible. With your support, we can turn hope into healing. Please join me in giving back!
