Story
I am Tyler Parliman, the Junior representative from Montclair Kimberley Academy on the Overlook Medical Center’s Junior Board. The Junior Board is a place where high school Juniors are offered the incredible opportunity to learn about hospital operations, philanthropy, and healthcare careers while raising funds for Overlook Medical Center.
I chose to join the Junior Board because it would provide me with the chance to understand what it means to have a true impact on the world. I have lived in Westfield for nearly my entire life, and throughout my time here, Overlook Medical Center has taken care of my family on countless occasions. The Overlook Foundation will allow me to begin my journey of driving global impact, beginning with meaningful change in a community to which I am so deeply connected. That change starts now.
This year, the Overlook Junior Board has chosen to assist the Neurology Department in implementing the use of the ExcelsiusGPS robotic navigation system for spine surgery. The Atlantic Neuroscience Institute, located at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, is the area's leader in providing neurological, neurosurgical, and neurodiagnostic care. It is crucial for this Institute to obtain state-of-the-art machinery in order to attract professionals of the highest caliber, ensure care is accessible to patients at the highest level of clinical excellence, and ultimately save as many lives as possible. Through your contributions, you are ensuring that the spinal segment of the neurology department is able to utilize the ExcelsiusGPS robotic navigation system to perform spine surgery with necessary precision by combining real-time imaging, navigation, and robotic guidance. In combination with another necessary piece of technology, the Zeiss microscope, surgeons are able to enhance visualization, improve safety, minimize tissue damage, reduce complications, enable minimally invasive procedures, shorten recovery time, support accurate screw placement, and navigate complex anatomy. Spine surgery has entered a new era in which precision, safety, and efficiency define the gold standard of care, and with your contribution, you could very well make the difference between a patient going home safely to their family or facing prolonged complications.
Thus, please assist me in reaching my goal of raising $2,000 dollars in support of the Overlook Medical Center to contribute to the overarching objective of a $30,000 dollar donation from the Junior Board to the Neurology Department.
Thank you so much for your time, support, consideration, and generosity!
