Story
Thank you for everyone who donated on my previous CanadaHelps page, OCTEVAW has since joined the Charity Challenge!
The Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) is a network of organizations united against violence. They focus on three areas:
1. Prevention — engaging with individuals and public institutions across the community to share best practices for preventing gender-based violence and supporting community-wide prevention efforts;
2. Public education and movement building — challenging the cultural norms that perpetuate gender-based violence (GBV) and isolate survivors;
3. Amplifying front-line voices — giving voice and resources to those who work with survivors of violence to ensure that their expertise informs public policy and contributes to legislative reform.
I frequent OCTEVAW's resources and research to complete my own work, and their commitment to the struggle for social justice for all individuals is a resource we desperately need in Ottawa, in the rest of Canada, and beyond. By supporting the coalition, we are also supporting the member agencies (https://www.octevaw-cocvff.ca/membership) that provide wrap-around support for those experiencing violence.
