Story

YouthCity Government (YCG): Empowering Youth Through Civic Engagement

YouthCity Government (YCG) provides Salt Lake City high school students with a unique opportunity to positively impact their community. Founded in 1994, YCG provides students with critical thinking skills while emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. Through collaboration with elected officials, city administrators, and community leaders, students are trained to identify and address key issues facing the city.

Our Impact: SLC MLK Day of Service Project

Since 2002, YCG has partnered with the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office, the Salt Lake City Council’s Office, and the Utah Food Bank to raise awareness and address hunger in our community through the MLK Day of Service Project. This collaboration highlights food insecurity while offering essential resources and solutions to those in need.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy, YCG transforms a "Day Off" into a "Day On" by taking action. Working alongside city officials, YCG students demonstrate the power of community and shared commitment to making a meaningful difference.

Since 1904, Utah Food Bank has stayed true to its objective of serving those in need throughout our state. They work tirelessly with community partners and volunteers to continue making an impact and fulfilling our mission of Fighting Hunger Statewide.

Last year, Utah Food Bank distributed 58 million meals via a statewide network of 309 partner agencies located in all 29 counties. In addition to being one of only a handful of food banks nationwide that distributes food free-of-charge to partner agencies, they also offer several direct service programs to help the most vulnerable populations in our state - children and seniors.

Utah Food Bank can stretch each $1 donated into $7.23 worth of goods and services, so every donation truly has an impact. Please support their important work today with a donation!
