Macmillan Cancer Support is investing £2.4 million to create a new ‘gold standard’ cancer support centre at York Hospital.

Story

BUGTHORPE WAR MEMORIAL INSTITUTE – 12-HOUR DARTATHON

In Aid of the Macmillan Cancer Care Centre at York District Hospital

The Bugthorpe 26 team (six players) will be playing darts for 12 hours, from 8am–8pm on Saturday 24th January, to raise funds for the redevelopment of the Cancer Care Centre at York District Hospital.

The Bugthorpe Institute Committee will also be offering tea, coffee, and cakes throughout the day. Everyone is welcome to come along and support the team.

York District Hospital’s Cancer Care Centre closed during the pandemic and now runs a limited service. Redevelopment is urgently needed to support people affected by cancer across York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire, and Ryedale. Construction began in September 2025 and is planned for completion in September 2026. Fundraising will help Macmillan reach their £2.4m target.

“As a clinical team, we always put the patient at the heart of everything we do. We work very closely with the personalised care team to provide an individual package of treatment and support for each patient. The investment in the new centre will continue this approach, helping to provide the best possible outcomes for people living with cancer in the region”

Tracey Doherty, Lead Cancer Nurse at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust”.
