Story
Food is not a privilege; it is a fundamental human right.
Today food insecurity is surging in our city, with 1 in 4 households grappling with hunger. However, due to rising cost of food, the 98 food programs working within the Ottawa Food Bank network will be receiving 20-50% less food than they have in years past.
Food Banks in Ontario receive no provincial or federal funding. The Ottawa Food Bank receives 1.4% of their budget from the City of Ottawa. Every year, they rely on donations to purchase and deliver food to thousands of people in Ottawa.
Food insecurity is more than a lack of food—it’s a symptom of deeper issues like poverty and inequality. The Ottawa Food Bank is fighting for long-term solutions that tackle these root causes, so everyone in Ottawa can meet their basic needs with dignity.
