Story

Welcome to Our Brighton Marathon 2025 profile page for Diabetes UK.

On the 6th April myself (Ryan Hastewell) and 3 friends (Ben Lewis, Steven Baker and Harry smith) will be running the Brighton marathon for diabetes UK in memory of Danielle Sweeting.

Danielle was a very brave, kind and loving person who sadly lost her life in January 2024. This was following a successful pancreas and kidney transplant she had been waiting 2 years for. In the weeks after she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Danielle was diagnosed with diabetes from 4 years old. So over the years I have seen the struggles of living with diabetes and how it can affect someones life. During her life she spent a lot of times in and out of hospitals with all sorts of different issues. However she always managed to keep remain positive during the darkest times for her whilst still being able to live her life to the fullest and do things she always wanted to do with her life.

In her last few years Danielle with a team of people managed to organise a couple of charity events raising money for diabetes UK and other charities she supported. Therefore we have decided to run for diabetes UK as it’s a charity Danielle very openly supported and diabetes was at the core of Danielle’s health issues.

So, we’re running for a better future for people living with diabetes. Any support/ donations is really appreciated. Thank you.
