Story
Hello, my name is Georgie, I am 23 years old and I am a student at Plymouth University in my final year of Animal Behaviour and Welfare. My life changed not even half an hour into New Year’s Day this year when I had a seizure. I was taken to hospital and after several scans it was found I had two brain tumours on the right hand side.
I was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and had surgery to remove both tumours a week later which was followed by a couple of nights on ITU. I went home a few days after that and began my process of recovery.
The laboratory tests showed I had two Grade II Gliomas, called diffuse astrocytomas. The initial plan after surgery was to keep a close watch on the tumours. My recovery was affected by me having seizures including non epileptic seizures which meant changing the drugs I was on. This was an incredibly difficult time mentally and physically.
In June my MRI scan showed that there was some activity around one of the tumours and it was decided the best course of action was to start radiotherapy to be followed by chemotherapy. I had some of my eggs frozen in case the chemotherapy affected them.
I am now on this difficult journey with support of my friends and family and I want to raise awareness of brain tumours and to raise money to support research in this area. This can happen to anyone, and I never expected this to happen to me. I will not stop fighting for a cure, both for my life, those lost and for others ❤️🧠
Brain tumours affect children and young adults in the UK but funding for research although increasing is only 3.2% of total UK cancer funding.
I have chosen to support The Brain Tumour Charity (https://www.thebraintumourcharity.org)who are working hard to change this so please give what support you can.
Thank you ❤️
