Story
“Every two hours, someone in the uk sustains a spinal cord injury. In that moment their world, and the world of their family is turned upside down.” (SIA)
This is exactly what happened to my dad in 2019, when an accident left him tetraplegic. From that day on, his life and subsequently ours as a family changed forever!
The Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) played a critical role in Dad’s recovery journey. They provided not only practical support, but also the emotional support, education, guidance we needed as a family to navigate a completely new and unfamiliar world.
Imagine waking up one day and realising you’ll never walk again. For thousands of people living with spinal cord injuries, this is their reality. Everyday things many of us take for granted like getting dressed, making a cup of tea, hugging loved ones suddenly become monumental challenges.
That’s why this fundraiser matters so much to us. In May, my wife Helen and I will be cycling 305km from Toulouse to Bordeaux over 3 days, alongside around 40 other riders, including riders who themselves are living with spinal cord injuries.
We’re not just pedalling for the adventure. We’re riding to help make a real difference for people affected by spinal cord injury and their families, and to support the vital work of the SIA. We’ve seen first-hand the impact they have, and this is our small way of saying thank you.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us and to those who rely on SIA’s work.
THANK YOU
Nicky & Helen
