Story
This March, I’m taking on HYROX Glasgow to support people living with cancer for Macmillan Cancer Support.
10 months ago, I heard the words nobody ever wants to hear “You have cancer”.
Nothing prepares you for hearing those words. Total shock…I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I’ve kept this fairly private, but I hope telling my story will raise awareness and also benefit a charity, who I’ve seen first hand, do an absolutely amazing job!
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. I had no family history, I was fit and healthy, and literally 7 days before diagnosis completed my first HYROX doubles. We all know the statistics, cancer affects 1 in 2 people, but never did I think it would hit me at the age of 44.
2025 was tough. I endured 9 months of chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. All the emotions…fear, anger, sadness, pain, anxiety, followed by relief and gratitude. My amazing husband, children, friends and family, have carried me through in ways I’ll never forget. Exercise was also a huge factor in getting me through this awful time. I continued to exercise throughout treatment when I was well enough, doing Pilates, walking, kettlebells. It gave me a sense of normality when everything else had been turned upside down.
In a moment of madness post radiotherapy I thought it would be fun to sign up for another HYROX. This time mixed doubles with my lovely husband Steven. I’m nowhere near fit enough, my body is very much still recovering from active treatment, I’m still on lots of medication with nasty side effects, but I want to prove that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
I’m sharing this now to raise awareness…ladies please, please check your breasts and get checked out if you notice anything unusual.
Also please donate to this great cause, it’ll give me a boost to get to that finish line, and I promise Steven will keep his top on!
Thank you! X
