Welcome, and thanks for stopping by at our site!
As motorcyclists we are fully aware of the importance of the role a helicopter can play in the provision of emergency services and the skill needed to land in some of the locations where they are called to. Motorcyclists also tend to travel the length and breadth of the country so are never really dependent on one service area. We are also aware of the significant costs of running aircraft, so we chose to support the charity services that are vital in the unfortunate event of needing remote area medical provision and at serious incidents. Being a charitable national network of Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) provision, what better than a national tour of all the charity organisations.
Of course, the service extends to more than just road users. Many call-outs are made to sporting and leisure activity incidents, and as such, we understand that there are local allegiances. This is why we wanted to set up the fundraising site so that donors can select their preferred service in any part of the country. However, through this event it would be nice to think that we have managed to raise awareness of the scale of HEMS operations in Great Britain.
We start midday on Saturday 22nd June from East Midlands Airport, with the tour taking us anti-clockwise around England, Scotland and Wales, to visit 20 charities across 30 bases, 2 hospital helipads, 1 hospital pad under construction (including 2 current landing sites) and 3 Scottish NHS bases (working in conjunction with SCAA). And of course, you can't make it a tour of Britain without visiting Land's End and John o' Groats! We finish back at EMA on the afternoon of Friday 5th July, completing a full circuit of Great Britain in just over 3400 miles over 14 continuous days.
Furthermore, all of this is being done on B roads and the smaller A roads, where possible; the natural home of a motorcycle. We do use some trunk A roads if we really have to but there is not a single section of motorway in the whole trip!
So, please consider supporting our efforts to raise funds and awareness of the Air Ambulance services that provide vital emergency medical assistance for every person, in every part of the country. These charities are not supported in any way by the Government or National Lottery funding, relying entirely on charitable donations to stay in operation. You can select your preferred charity from the list below, where you will also see tour updates related to that charity. Please feel free to get in touch with us via email if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks for taking the time to consider supporting us and we look forward to sharing our trip with you.
