Why your donation matters

ACT believes that every patient deserves the best possible care available. We provide funding for the extras that are needed, so we can make a real difference.

For example:

Crawford, 75, was treated for bowel cancer: "I'm so grateful to every single one of the kind ACT supporters who generoulsly paid for the new hi-tech pumps that helped save my life."

Karen, emergency department manager, said: "Without so many fantastic donors we couldn't have replaced the hard old plastic chairs in our waiting room with comfy padded seats."

Donate now - you could make a real difference to patients.

Case study: donations in action

For one-year-old Mabel Keate’s family, tucking their daughter up at bedtime was a constant worry. Overnight, her breathing was very noisy and her oxygen levels kept dropping dangerously low.

Luckily, in 2008 a regional service was developed to treat children with sleep problems. Mabel was its first patient. Consultant paediatrician Dr Rob Ross Russell explains: “Key to the service was a sleep trolley with all the hi-tech kit needed to monitor Mabel while she slept. It helped us to find and treat a blockage in her throat. She has done spectacularly well, but without the sleep trolley it would have taken much longer to realise the extent of the problem, which could have led to much bigger problems for her. We have since undertaken over 200 children’s sleep studies.”

Two more sleep trolleys were bought in 2009/10 to expand the service, with £25,000 of charitable funds. So now, hundreds more children like Mabel – and their families – will be able to sleep easier in their beds.
