Why your donation matters

Bible Society believes in the transformational power of the Bible – and we’re working towards a day when the Bible will be shaping lives and communities everywhere.

It’s shocking, but more than half the world’s 6,912 languages still wait for even one book of the Bible. Less than 500 languages have a translation of the whole Bible.

And did you know:

Though a billion people can’t read, only three per cent of languages have the Bible in audio. Every five seconds, someone goes blind, but the complete Braille Bible exists in only 35 languages. Meanwhile, in England and Wales, millions of people have no understanding of the Bible’s value for them and their communities.

Your support matters. Your donation will bring the Bible’s life-changing message around the world.

Case study: donations in action

Tesfaye, 17, was electrocuted after sleeping in an electricity sub station to try and stay warm. He was one of Ethiopia’s thousands of street children. But his life has been turned around by the Bible’s message of love, hope and comfort.

Tesfaye was taken to hospital after he was found lying at the side of the road. He’d been so badly burnt, he was in hospital for six months before he was taken to the Lighthouse Boys’ home. Here, he started listening to an audio Bible provided by supporters like you.

‘My life has been changed totally,’ he said. ‘God has a plan for me. I’m trusting in him now. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me, but I believe that God has a plan.’
