Josie’s story – a future with technology

Josie Atherton is a busy mum to two year old Charlie. In 2010, Josie was diagnosed with Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). In just a matter of months she had very limited vision.

Josie’s usual confidence took a huge blow. A key first step for anyone is coming to terms with losing their sight. Cam Sight invited Josie to take part in the Emotional Support Groups where people meet and support each other.

She described being part of the group:

“It completely changed me …..,my family and close friends could see a change in me from the very first session…..”

Josie shared a discovery with others in the group:

“I’ve been texting since I was 11 and found it very frustrating when I couldn’t read messages anymore. I can touch type to send texts, but reading them was difficult until I used the button to enlarge the message. It seems the tinniest thing but makes such a lot of difference.”
