Why your donation matters

Christ Church Swindon celebrates 160 years at the heart of the community. Many are touched by it throughout their lives; it is an enduring backcloth to the seasons of birth, marriage and death.

We are now looking to create a 21st century future for it by ensuring that it remains central to Swindon, providing space for worship, exhibitions, meetings and concerts as well as remaining a place of peace and mystery.

Your support and donations will help us rebuild our ageing community centre and make improvements to the church itself that we hope will raise awareness in our local community of the silent but critical part that the church plays in its community.

Case study: donations in action

Turning slate into a new community hall.

Late last year when we were looking at ways of raising funds for the development and renewal of Christ church in its 160th year, a small team led by Bernard Oxborrow set out to convert a large stock of old Welsh slate roof tiles into saleable items.

Bernard set up a small production workshop in his garage at home and worked out how to cut, shape and finish the raw tiles into a range of beautifully finished coasters and placemats - each one a small piece of history. This involved many hours of experimenting with sizes and finishes - then many more hours actually producing a stock for sale at our various fundraising events.

The team; Bernard, Mike Palmer and Daniel Pitt have, so far, sold more than £500 worth of coasters and mats. Each one, lovingly finished by hand, represents a substantial commitment of time and energy.
