Story
In September, Jermain, Ant and Joey will be paddling six and a half marathons in six and a half days to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance and British Acoustic Neuroma Association.
The trio of intrepid paddlers will start their epic journey in Liverpool and will paddle around ten hours each day to reach the port of Goole on the other side of the country. The route covers 162 miles and involves negotiating 106 locks and around 60 swing bridges. No mean feat for three chaps that had never been in a canoe before April this year!
The Society of St George, Burnley is very generously supporting this Herculean endeavour by providing the 17’ Canadian canoe and equipment needed to ensure the brave adventurers can complete their odyssey.
The team are hoping to raise a thousand pounds for each of two charities, the British Acoustic Neuroma Association and the North West Air Ambulance.

Jermain’s wife suffers from a relatively rare type of brain tumour called Acoustic Neuroma (or Vestibular Schwannoma). British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that supports people with this and other related conditions. They also aim to promote and support research into medical, surgical and other procedures likely to lead to the prevention, early detection and successful treatment to improve the quality of life of those people affected.

In 2017 the main recipient of The Society of St George, Burnley’s fundraising is the North West Air Ambulance Charity . The Air Ambulance takes advanced healthcare to scene; reaching, treating and transferring patients to definitive care as quickly as possible and works collaboratively with its partners to ensure they are transferred to the best treatment centre thus improving chances of survival and reducing the risk of long term injury. The service is funded by the generosity of the public.
