Story
In 2017 I’m running every single day of the year to raise money and awareness for Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.
Many Tears take in and re-home dogs who – more often than not – have had a pretty traumatic time. Many of them are ex-breeding dogs who were never even given a name, let alone a chance to run in the park or a comfortable sofa to lie on at the end of the day. They help these dogs find homes where they will be loved and become members of a family – something that every dog wants and deserves. They also help many of these dogs have life changing operations in order to see or walk again, after years of only knowing pain and confusion. The rescue centre receives no funding at all, and has gone through many challenges to keep doing the extraordinary work that it does – and this is why I needed to do something to help.
As I write this almost 150 days in, running every day is probably the hardest thing I have ever done, but I knew I had to do something difficult and different here. So far this year, I have run in everything from hailstones and freezing winds (next to the sea…) to intense, dehydrating heat. I’ve run with head colds, painful fatigue, sore knees, backache and hangovers. The point is, however I feel each day, thinking about what these dogs have gone through gets me out there and gets me through it without fail – because they deserve to be thought about every day.
If you have a dog in your family, you probably understand.
