Story
From the 22nd to the 24th of September Karly Maguire, Katie Hindley, Tom McGuirk, Chris Briggs, Mike Young as well as Tom’s brother Mikey McGuirk and Chris’ friend Kate Robinson will be doing the National 3 Peaks Challenge in order to raise money for two vitally important charities.
These charities are REST (Repatriation Services Trust), which most of you know has been set up in memory of Tom Bassett and The Whitechapel Centre.
REST is going to be a charity which will support families emotionally and financially that go through the tragedy of losing a loved one in another country and having to bring them back to the UK.
The Whitechapel Centre is the leading homeless and housing charity for the Liverpool region and is open 365 days a year. Last year they helped 2,814 disadvantaged people. Yearly, they provide up to 70,000 free breakfasts, support to access accommodation, benefits, healthcare services and much more.
The Whitechapel Centre aims, not only to get people off the streets, but to stay off the streets. It helps prepare and equip service users to get back into society, and, amid a myriad of social welfare cuts, it is a lifeline to so many vulnerable and desperate people – who would otherwise ‘slip through the cracks’.
So for these two great causes we will be pestering friends, family and colleagues for sponsorship as we walk AT LEAST 26 miles and climb a total ascent of 9,800 ft over the course of zipping between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt Snowdon.
However much you can give would be greatly appreciated and will be shared evenly between the two charities.
