Story

Our Mum (Charlie & Eva’s Grandma) had been unwell for a couple of weeks but on Tuesday 7th April she was taken to Pinderfields by blue flashing lights. We were all so so worried about Mum, she had a temp of over 39 degrees, Mum was also struggling with breathing & had a nasty cough. Mum previously had pneumonia a couple of times a few years ago.
Mum was admitted in to hospital&was put on a drip to hydrate her; she was given Oxygen as support, had blood tests, ECG’s&scans. Mum’s oxygen levels were down@ 88%, we were all now hoping that she was strong&tough enough to fight whatever she had. The next 24 hours were horrible; we were waiting for news from the Hospital. Did she have covid? Had her oxygen levels increased? What made it worse was that we couldn’t see her; we are all such a close family unit.
My Dad&Robert called the Hospital, the ward said that Mum was making good progress&that her oxygen levels were starting to improve with support they had reached 92%, this was very positive progress. Mum couldn’t taste or smell, but had slowly started to eat some food. The Dr’s were just doing their rounds&we were asked to call back later in the afternoon for Mum’s results, it had been a hard 48 hours but Mum was going the right way thankfully. The test has come back positive & Mandy has pneumonia, our hearts sank! Mum’s stats continued to pick up; Mum was fighting covid and pneumonia.
After five days in Pinderfields hospital Mum was discharged to finish her recovery at home, Pinderfields wards 42a and 45b you will never know how grateful we are for all you did for our Mum.
Charlie and Eva will be completing 500,000 steps in May and raising money for Pinderfields to show all of our appreciation, they will be keeping a diary and pictures will be uploaded of their journey (Charlie and Eva are only 9 & 7 so this is a lot of steps over 250mile infact).

Mum BEAT covid-19 & pneumonia, not everyone is as lucky. We are forever grateful so THANK YOU to OUR NHS and Pinderfields!
