Story
On Monday 20th November erinn was taken to the drs with a suspicious bruise on her chin. The drs refered us straight to the hospital where we sat for 8 hours while she had blood taken and tests done. At the end one of the Dr's told us there was a chance that it could be leukemia, we were then refered to alder hey the next day to meet with a consultant. On Wednesday the 22nd we went back to alder hey for Erinn to have her first bone marrow sample taken - we ended up staying in hospital until the Friday night as she wasn't very well. We got a diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome - she would basically need to have a bone marrow transplant as soon as a match was found. We were told that there was still a chance of leukemia and our consultant thought there was a chance of it being a very rare kind of aml. After they told us it was mds we had regular appointmentments so she could have blood and platelets transfusions as her levels drop quickly and she's not producing enough of her own. In December she had a central line placed in her chest and a lumber punch with a small dose of chemo to get rid of any possible cancerous cells from her spine and around her brain. On December 14th we got a phone call to tell us she did in fact have the rare type of leukemia, our consultant told us she had only seen 1 case in alder hey in the last 6 years and it is more common in older people. She was to start treatment straight away. In the end Erinn didn't start treatment until 30th December. For the first 10 days she was having her chemo and had 23 doses of it. Now we're in recovery. We now have to wait for her neutrophils to grow back so we can come home
