Story

We will be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on 12th May 2024 in support of the Rawthey Project

CIC. Our team consists of Alan (Ed) Gaskin, Paul Lander, David Gowlett, Mal Brigden, Richard Bingham, Nikki Jackson, William Longlands and Brian Capstick. We are all Armed Forces Veterans, promoting our cause individually and raising money collectively. We have a FB Page where you can follow our individual training and build up to the marathon: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61554266428921

The Rawthey Project CIC, which is based in Sedbergh, was established for the benefit of the community and (without limitation) the Armed Forces, Emergency Services and NHS communities, including family. It aims to support the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our communities through a structure in which volunteers connect with beneficiaries who have become disadvantaged or vulnerable. With the permission of the beneficiary, our peer mentors, who are supported by specialist clinical and social care teams, develop, coordinate & deliver a structured multi-agency framework led by care professionals. We have also developed a Residential Respite & Recovery course.

The Tom Thacker Residential Respite & Recovery Course provides beneficiaries with a 3 months, fully funded, residential course that offers them the opportunity to rapidly change their environment and reevaluate their situation with the support of peers and clinical professionals. All support is led and guided by a trained and qualified Clinical Psychologist and/or other care professional.

The course is up and running and has already been successful in helping a number of veterans get their lives back on track. Over the next 4 years the aim is to assist a further 96 of our most vulnerable beneficiaries to complete the course, with any spare capacity utilised for short term respite or emergency accommodation.

Working alongside businesses, support is offered to assist beneficiaries with the transition back into sustainable employment, often at the end of a period of residential recovery.

Supported by peer mentors, the challenges of accommodation, transport & administration are overcome whilst concurrently liaising with employers to ensure that care needs are met alongside what are often robust employer HR protocols.

Your donation will help us to ensure that our beneficiaries get the best support available, and in a timely fashion. It will assist them to stabilise their lives, evaluate their options and secure independence with sustainable employment and/or a pathway to gain a new skill set or qualification which will enhance their ability to achieve such a goal.
