I'm raising £750

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fund raising - do not feel obliged as we all get badgered off friends and family for charities and fund raising, I appreciate that !!

I am doing a mountain climb and even if you are kind enough to give just £2 and I raise £100 amongst my friends, its better than nothing. That's all I ask and no offence will be taken, £2 as a minimum would be awesome and at least amongst my friend circulation it may accrue a hundred or two. Maybe even the price of a pint, £5. I would be more than happy with that and instead of buying me a drink for doing this, why not donate that cost to my cause.

I'm raising money for three causes and any money raised will be split three ways. Alzheimer's Society, Parachute Regiment Veterans & PTSD Resolution.

I am attempting to climb & summit Kilimanjaro in the next few months over a period of 8 days - Africa's highest mountain, a dormant volcano in Tanzania, famous as the world's tallest free-standing peak and one of the Worlds Seven Summits at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet).

It's a fair old climb and it's the final summit stage which is a tricky 'mind over matter' high altitude test. Each person deals with Altitude Sickness very differently, some can't so I am hoping I'm one of the lucky ones. However, the temperature to sleep out in a tent and climb in the early hours of the final summit push is between -7 oC to -29 oC so that isn't going to be too pleasant.

If you can spare anything, please support me and the three charities.

As you know my dad, 'Big Bob', died late last year after suffering from Dementia which has been a rather shitty 5 or so years of suffering for both himself and my immediate family. So I'll be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society. They provided vital support to help people navigate the daily challenges of life with dementia. Dementia is the UK's biggest killer, it affects us all and it devastates lives. Alzheimer's Society is a registered charity in England and Wales (296645). https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/

You also know I am involved with the Parachute Regiment after being in the regiment prior to the police. I do a lot for the veterans of the Airborne Brotherhood, especially for the elderly members who often are lonely or have very little in their old age. They often require medical equipment, simple company / contact, transport for operations nationally and wheelchairs / motorised scooters which need buying and providing. The Parachute Regimental Association (PRA) was formed at the end of the Second World War to further the interests of The Parachute Regiment and to organise functions and activities so members could continue associations formed during their service with the Regiment and Airborne Forces. Registered Charity Number: 214015.https://theparachuteregimentalassociation.com/about-us/

From my police service there's the issue of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This is a large problem in the service due to full careers dealing with violence , traumatic death and trauma in incidents we attend. Suicide amongst male officers is increasing and men tend not to talk about their issues and traumas. In my service I have dealt with in the region of 200 bodies in normal or traumatised horrific states, these experiences and sights are not easily forgotten and are hard to process, never leaving you !

The police provide some support but for those that have also served in the military there is a service called PTSD Resolution which provides vital support to military personnel and police officers. This is the third charity I would like to donate to.

PTSD Resolution is a UK charity that provides free mental health support for veterans, reservists, and their families struggling with trauma from military service or other life challenges. Our network of 200 accredited therapists delivers confidential, one-on-one sessions to relieve symptoms like flashbacks, nightmares, and depression—helping clients rebuild work and family life.

PTSD Resolution is a charity registered in England and Wales (1202649). Call free on: 0300 302 0551 https://ptsdresolution.org/
