Story

My name is Alison Wain, I am a Teaching Assistant & School Council Lead at Prospect Hill Infant & Nursery School, Worksop. Believe it or not, I have decided to take part in a tandem skydive on the 2nd of April, to raise much-needed funds for our School Council Playground Project. We want to give children at school a playground to be proud of and enjoy while making friendships and having fun.

School Council have been raising money for this project for a number of years, holding Christmas and Summer Fayres together with other small events. But this is the first time I've leapt out of a plane.

Unfortunately, all our events over the past 2 years had to be cancelled due to Covid, so our fundraising has taken a huge hit. We managed to organise an Easter colouring competition and Christmas bauble decorating competition together with a hot chocolate and mince pie honesty table. But we are still a way from our target.

So, it's time for something a little bit different...

I would like to raise £1,000 to give our fundraising a HUGE boost!

I'm not great with heights, I even struggle on a step ladder when decorating! I have never done or wanted to do anything like this before so this will push me way out of my comfort zone. My father was in the Army in the Parachute Regiment (1 Para) so I'm doing it for him as much as anything and I am so thankful he will be there to see me do it.

Although I am totally bonkers, I have agreed to do the tandem skydive and it’s a very scary thought. However, I want to help the school achieve its goal. The children have the opportunity to learn through play and I hope this crackers idea for fundraising will help.

As part of this skydiving fundraiser, School Council are organising a free to enter design t-shirt competition for the children. The winning designs will be printed on a t-shirt that I will wear on the day. I would love as many of the children as possible to get involved.

Ultimately, I am doing this for all the children at school. They will be a step closer to having a playground with wonderful equipment which will help develop their imagination. It will also help the children's social and physical skills while building lasting friendships. We would like to see fixed equipment and a new, safe surface for the children to enjoy.

I would be so grateful for any donations towards my skydive. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
