    Story

We are the 'Fire Fighters’ at Middlemoor fire station in Exeter. We are asking you to support us with this extremely good cause, raising money for Amelia and her family.

On the 30th of May 2019, fire crews from Middlemoor Station attended a serious road traffic collision on the A30 involving an articulated lorry and a VW campervan. A 36 year old male driver and his 6 year old daughter, Amelia, were travelling from Cornwall having collected their van following some restoration work. Whilst returning to their home in Basingstoke the campervan collided with a stationary lorry just outside of Exeter, tragically killing Amelia’s Dad on impact and trapping Amelia in the rear of the vehicle. Amelia was rescued from the van by a passing lorry driver who stopped and helped her. Fortunately Amelia escaped with relatively minor injuries, thanks mainly to the quality of the child restraint system that had been fitted to the van. Despite her young age, Amelia was well aware that her father had been killed on impact, resulting in a truly traumatic ordeal for the little girl, the mental scars of which will undoubtedly stay with her for a lifetime. As firefighters we were called to deal with the immediate and ongoing aftermath of this tragic incident and as a result everyone involved has been touched by this sad story.

Blue and Green Watch from Middlemoor Station were involved in this incident and have both agreed that we would like to do something to attempt to alleviate some of the anguish this poor family must be experiencing after this life changing event. Therefore we are organising a sponsored cycle ride over a two day period this September from Middlemoor Fire Station in Exeter to Basingstoke, where the family live, in an attempt to raise enough money to send the young girl and her family on an all-expenses paid holiday to Disneyland. Hopefully you agree that this is an extremely worthy cause and any donations will be very gratefully received.
