Story
Having recently been very fortunate to welcome 10 week premature twins into the family, we thought we can say a big thank you by raising some money for The Gosset Ward in Northampton General Hospital.
The donation will go towards new equipment for the Ward and better facilities for the future premature babies and families.
About the Gosset Ward:
The Gosset Ward is a neonatal intensive care unit which cares for new born babies who require some form of special high dependancy or intensive care nursing.
Most of the babies admitted to Gosset are due to premature births. The normal length of pregnancy is 37 - 42 weeks gestation, so a baby born before 37 weeks is premature.
It is expected that babies less then 34 weeks will be addmitted to the unit. Babies at 34 weeks or more will only be admiited to Gosset if they need specialist care. It is not unusal to admit full term babies to the unit for various reasons.
The unit is part of the Central New Born Network and is a designated level two unit and is allowed to practice intensive care for babies of 27 weeks gestation or above.
