Story

🚴‍♂️ Angel2Angel Ride 2026

'The Return journey'

On the 25th-28th June 2026, 40 riders will be taking on an incredible 311 Mile journey cycling from the Angel of the North to the Angel Centre in Colchester to develop a Sensory Gym space and multi-use activity studio with adaptive equipment and furnishings for children with additional needs and disabilities.

Right now we need to create a space where children with disabilities can thrive through structured movement and play, without costly private healthcare service fees. This space will also enable families to come together while their children explore movement.

£25 will fund a child to receive a 1-to-1 session with an instructor. This introduction could be the one thing that finally engages a child in movement for years to come.

£40 will fund a child to attend a weekly movement activity group for a full month.

A selection of items we need for our Sensory Gym space

- Projector and projector screen £2000

- Electrical wiring £3000

- Accessible bathroom hoist £2500

- Sensory swings £1500

- Sensory decorations £1500

- Tables and Chairs £500

- Paediatric First aid training for staff £600

Please kindly donate, share the page or join the team! We appreciate every one of you in helping us help our beneficiaries.

The Angel2Angel Ride

We're cycling to transform lives, again! 10 years on from our 2016 Angel2Angel ride from The Angel Pub in Peterborough to the Angel of the North, we are taking on the return journey but this time with some extra miles to finish at this special place.

40 sponsored Riders will take on the 4 day challenge, pedalling 70-80 Miles per day.

The Angel Centre service users also be taking on the distance throughout the year using static bikes. This is a big achievement for these individuals with disabilities and health conditions.

The Angel Centre

Making Fitness Accessible CIC have successfully piloted a Sensory Gym space within one of its gym sites. Feedback from this project from service users, families, schools and healthcare providers has been so positive. The need for this environment to develop further is clear to see with this service providing crucial physical activity support and opportunities in a safe space specially adapted to meet each child's unique needs.

In June 2025, Making Fitness Accessible CIC acquired a unique space to provide physical activity opportunities to all ages. The new centre which is in Colchester, Essex has been named The Angel Centre, after the support and generosity shown from the Angel2Angel Ride.

Making Fitness Accessible CIC is a not for profit organisation supporting people with disabilities and health conditions to participate in physical activities, passionate about creating opportunities for all ages and abilities to experience the joy of movement in a safe, supportive environment.

Why This Matters:

10 years ago this ride was inspired by Calum for his daughter Callia who has Angelman Syndrome - A rare genetic disorder characterised by developmental delays, intellectual disability, speech impairment, and distinctive behavioral features.

Callia has attended the Sensory Gym since its launch in September 2023. She loves coming along to play and move and continues to progress with confidence and strength.

Every penny raised will go directly towards helping more children access life-changing physical activity opportunities.

What We'll Achieve:

Your support will help us:

• Create a fully-equipped Sensory Gym space

• Provide specialist equipment for children with additional needs

• Increase our capacity to support more families

• Create accessible changing and toilet spaces

• Host a space for SEND birthday parties

• Provide access for Specialist education Schools
