#DoitforJosh charity is on a mission to raise a total of £4,000.00 this year to enable rehabilitation programme for stroke survivors in our local community to continue. The programme has been a huge success so far however a lack of funding means they will have to come to an end shortly.
Heart & Sole Runners are taking on the epic challenge of running a 50km Ultra Marathon on 30th May to support this vital fundraising effort.
According to the Stroke Association:
- Stroke strikes every five minutes
- 100,000 people have strokes each year
- There are 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK
Stroke remains a leading cause of long-term disability in England. As a result, stroke survivors often find themselves deconditioned and at risk of adopting a sedentary lifestyle, which can adversely impact their ability to perform daily activities, increase the risk of falls, and heighten the chances of recurrent strokes and other cardiovascular diseases.
With your generous support, we aim to fund East Sussex Healthcare Trust and Active Sussex to continue to deliver activity sessions within Bexhill Hospital's Irvine Unit for groups of patients recovering from strokes and at risk of deconditioning. These sessions will also be streamed into other inpatient settings across various NHS Trusts in Sussex, including Rye Hospital, Conquest Hospital, Hastings, Eastbourne District General Hospital, Crawley Hospital, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, and St. Richard’s Hospital in Chichester.
This cause holds a special place within the #DoitforJosh charity as it's co-founder and Josh's Dad sadly passed away following a stroke last year. We believe that this service would have been invaluable for him and will be for countless others on their road to recovery.
We are incredibly grateful for every like, share, and donation you can provide. Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by strokes. 💙
